Amcare Women’s and Children’s Hospital is located literally just around the corner from Beijing United. It’s a good mix of Western and Chinese care. Though all of their doctors are Chinese, some have had training or experience in the US. Translators (English and Korean—perhaps other languages too?) are provided upon request. C-sections are more popular than natural birth, but women that present a birth plan are supported in meeting their natural birth goals. Any foreign woman wishing to deliver there should be comfortable with Chinese culture (Western care with a Chinese flair!), and may be more at ease if they have basic Chinese language skills. Amcare is a very well run hospital that is about one third the cost of Beijing United with facilities and care that rival it. The accounting department was very easy to work with, and all expenses were completely straightforward—no surprise charges! . A Western menu is available with Annie’s and other Western restaurants nearby.

American-Sino OB/GYN Hospital

American-Sino OB/GYN Hospital is a comfortable smaller-scale hospital focusing specifically on women and children’s care. Their facilities are modern and clean. The doctors and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Some doctors speak English. Usually, though, they are accompanied by an English-speaking nurse.

American-Sino is located inside of the Tibetan Hospital. While it is in a quieter section of town, it can be a bit difficult to find the first time. It is a 7-minute walk to the nearest subway stop on lines 5 & 10, “Huixinxijie Nankou” (惠新西街南口).

About a 5-minute walk from the hospital is a KFC and Pizza Hut as well as some nice fast food Chinese chain-restaurants.

Beijing United Family Hospital (BJU) has been the traditional choice of hospital for foreigners having a baby in China for many years. It offers Western doctors and Western prices. The level of care is very high, as well as the level of traffic.

BJU is conveniently located in the Lido area of Beijing. There are many Western restaurants located nearby which can be delivered to the hospital. There is also a foreign grocery store (Jenny Lou’s) located within walking distance.
