No

No

Is a birthing coach, spouse, friend and/or translator allowed in the delivery room during delivery?

Yes

Only the father can be in the delivery room if it is natural birth.

Because there are no GYN/OB specialists in the International Clinic, visits will be done with a Chinese doctor and a nurse translator from the International Clinic. For routine check-ups it is important to be aggressive about asking questions and getting answers. It is possible for the father to be allowed in the delivery room. In order to do this, permission must be obtained from the hospital. Most likely, the OB will not be able to authorize it, but he or she will need to get approval by someone with higher authority. (Be sure that this permission is written in the medical chart, or ask the doctor for a letter stating that permission has been granted.) Regardless of approval, if a C-section is necessary, no one will be able to be with you at the time of delivery. As Qingdao Municpal Hospital is very much a Chinese hospital, be prepared to bring everything with you to the hospital.

*Note: The Maternity and Pediatrics Wards occupy one of the older buildings on the hospital campus, so it’s not in the same building as the International Clinic on on the 4th Floor of the Main Building.

Take a look at our listings page under Qingdao and definitely check out Qingdao Women and Infant’s Hospital. They have some English speaking staff there.

You can also check out Bellaire Medical Center & Cham Shan Int’l Medical Center. These offer English translation and even clinic checkups. For the birth, they would likely take you to a hospital like Women and Infant’s hospital. But they would help you along the way.
