I went to American Sino for my prenatal checks between January to May 2019. I would not recommend American Sino, especially if it is your first pregnancy, and/or if you only do prenatal check here (in my case I am going back to France for delivery). The staff is nice and the machines look new, but from the beginning we had the impression to be treated more like wallets than actual patients. The consultations are a series of checks where there is absolutely no explanation, advice on what to do or not to do, or any other kind of useful explanation. The only thing the doctor would say is “all is normal” after the ultrasound. I had to call them several times after each visit so that they give me the results of the tests (urine, blood, ultrasounds) and they just sent me the raw data without any kind of explanation. Also, I had to remind them every time that I needed to do the toxoplasma test, which is something I would expect a doctor to follow up and make sure is done – luckily, my mother back in France is also a doctor so she could help me read the results and give me instructions on which additional tests I had to take or not… I went with formula C that did not include an ultrasound in the last visit, however the doctor did a (2-minute) ultrasound without asking us if we wanted to, in which we learnt nothing, and for which we had to pay an additional unannounced 1,000 RMB when we checked out. But for me the worse has been when I asked the results of all the visits I did to bring to my doctor in France (who will be the one attending me for delivery) and for which American Sino replied that there was several ultrasounds missing as they did not record them (!!) and because I did not pay extra the ultrasound (note that in fact ultrasounds for visits 1-4 were all included in the package I paid, that cost us 17,000 RMB, so I would not exactly say that ultrasounds were for free!!!). Bottom line, if I happen to be pregnant again in Shanghai I will surely not go to American Sino again, and either select a cheaper option (which will have at least the same level of service) or another international hospital with better care of clients.
We had our first baby there injanuary 2015 and all was fine on services -cost a bit high but accpetavble -Then i find service start deteriote during last 2 years -Now preparing for arrival second babby due in april , we book package with SA to follow my wife -For work reason, i need to go back to france and we ask reimbursement of package remaining but after more than one month ,no MONEY BACK and just plenty of excuses ….
When we went last week with my daughter because she catch bad cold (2 years old daufghter), service was awfull and you feel they just want to grab your money and do not really care of you …On top, little american and mainly chinese speaking ..
Terrible service, don’t care attitude of doctors and frustrated nurses.
My wife and I went to American Sino after getting news of pregnancy, we chose one of their “highly qualified and experiences” Dr named Flora. We spent first two and half months of pregnancy full time consulting to ṭhis hospital. We ignored bossy attitude nurses but the thing which really pissed me off was that our doctor, actually didn’t treat this important moment of our life with enough attention and sincerity. She never made any suggestions regarding anything we asked what supplements do we need to eat and what changes we need to do in day to day lifestyle. She asked my wife to enjoy daily life as usual which in turn made our first trimester of pregnancy very horrifying and scary. My wife had bleeding and soreness in her belly during third month and Dr Flora asked us to wait for first trimester to be over to see if everything will be alright. In last 15 days of first trimester we decided to leave American sino and move to another doctor. Who suggested us required supplements after making us take some tests. Now we are in final trimester and when we look back we feel our first trimester was most dreadful period of this beautiful journey and only reason was American sino.
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS
I cannot agree more with the previous comments. We looked around here after finding we were pregnant but after reading the reviews and having a bad feeling about the place we decided against it. Then three weeks ago I found out I had had a missed miscarriage. I had gone to my local Heath clinic in Suzhou for a routine scan and there was no heart beat. We went to Sino-American simply because our insurance doesn’t cover Family United or Parkway. We had a scan by a female doctor who was very understanding and I said I wanted to try and miscarry naturally. She recommended that we make an appointment with Doctor Wong in a couple of weeks if there was no progress as he is the miscarriage specialist. We went back to him last week and I had discussed with my cousin who is a gynecologist in the uk about our options. She said perhaps use the medication to induce the miscarriage. (I was anxious about miscarrying on our flight back to the uk which is coming up!) Dr Wong seemed hell bent of getting us to have a D&C and told us all sorts of unhelpful horror stories about people miscarrying on planes and the medication not working. Eventually (as we were about to walk out!) he agreed to prescribe the medicine… However he did not prescribe enough as I later found out from my cousin and the doctor as my local hospital in Changshu! He should have given me a follow up dose for the next day as my pregnancy was further along than when most people take this medication, but he did not. So the next day I waited in line to get another prescription in Changshu… The doctor there was surprised he gave so little! Furthermore when I went to get the medication the cashier asked me to pay, I showed her my insurance but she said insurance doesn’t cover abortions. I don’t know how my husband didn’t hit her!! I explained in Chinese and English we had a miscarriage but she continued to insist we pay as the insursnce would question it. Eventually a nurse came and sorted it out but you can imagine how I felt. I took the medication this weekend and refuse to return to this clinic. Have just been seen by a very lovely doctor in Benq in Suzhou and we will be going back there when we hopefully have our rainbow baby! Please please save yourselves the stress of this place and take head of these reviews!
I went to American Sino after I heard from a friend that she had good experience with the clinic. I asked for Dr. kristine Xu who was the doctor who had delivered my friend’s babies so I was quite confident that things will be good. However, nothing except the bill was of an international clinic level. The nurse asks you all private questions infront of everyone. the doctor seemed to be in a rush to finish things. I even got her the prescription from my doctor back home so she could understand the situation better but she just didnt want to see it! Despite me contantly telling her that I have been having the problem for very long and it keeps coming back, she was too confident that it was nothing. Well, the least you expect is that the doctor atleast listens to you and explains to you why the problem is there. After that nurse took me to the medicine counter and when I asked her is this gonna make evrything ok, she said “yes should be ok for 3 months”!!!! Horrible place, horrible doctors. I even called their customer service but nobody seemed to be interested. I ofcourse still need to go to another doctor because the medicines didnt help me much and the problem is back like I told the doctor. PLS DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. PLEASE!
They also partner with Worldpath Clinic in Pudong, who provide excellent prenatal care. And after having my first baby, with complications, at Huashan Inpatient facility I xan that was great too.
Be prepared as not all nurses are fluent in English, which if you can’t explain something can get quite frustrating. But this place is much much much cheaper than other international hospitals so you get what you pay for…
Breastfeeding advice was also a bit touch and go depending on which nurse attended, so be careful you stick to what you feel is best as they may push you to get baby to take formula, which in my opinion is nuts as breast milk beats all alternatives hands down. Get in touch with La Leche League before you have baby and in Shanghai there is a wonderful lactation consultant.

Don’t go to this hospital:
– My wife has a severe condition that this hospital is not able to solve the problem. Since the beginning, the Doctor in charge of us has told us we have some issues but we should wait. Each time we went there to see her, she has been very laconic in her explanation, answering to our questions with condescending tone or arrogant smile like how come you ask such a stupid question etc… each consultation lasted what like 5 minutes top chrono, even though our condition was severe, we were reminded that there is nothing to do, and we should be relax (hard to be when the doctor will tell you “it is so dangerous” when looking at the ultrasoung pictures…)
– We are in the 7th month, and she told us that we should go to another hospital because their facilities will be more appropriate for our case. According to my wife who is Chinese, the doctor just does not want to lose the face and admit she is incompetent here… So basically we are now looking for a new hospital at 7th month (which is like almost too late to switch hospital) because this stupid doctor would not tell us straightforwardly before that she is not able to take care of us.
JUST DON’T GO THERE, they are only after your money, and they are a bunch of local doctors, incompetent, who just happend to speak very little English to justify their fees. And if there is anything complicated/or rare condition, you will be treated with disdain and they will do everything so you go somewhere else but will not tell you straightforwardly because they don’t want to lose their reputation blablabla….
Btw, the doctor in charge of us is supposed to be the best one there….
